Inspiration

Queen Berenice, the wife of King Ptolemy III of Egypt offered her beautiful golden hair to Aphrodite in exchange for her husband's safe return from battle. Following his return, she placed her cut locks on the altar of the goddess' temple, but the next day the hair had disappeared. To appease the angry royal couple, the court astronomer Conon of Samos, said that the gods were so pleased by Berenice's sacrifice that they had lifted the queen's hair into the heavens, creating the constellation of Berenice's Hair, for all to see.
